CrossFit Kids is a method for teaching Greg Glassman’s CrossFit to children. Based on the principle of Mechanics, Consistency and then Intensity, CrossFit Kids emphasizes good movement throughout childhood. Consistently good mechanics translates to physical literacy, enhanced sports performance and fewer sports injuries for kids. Not only that, a vast body of research indicates that exercise is beneficial to cognitive function, which means consistent adherence to the program can have a positive impact on children’s academic achievement.
CrossFit Kids is meant to be BIG fun for all ages. Broad-Inclusive-General fun. Fun means we provide an active alternative to sedentary pursuits, which means less childhood obesity and all-around better health for our children.
The Crossfit Kids coaches at Mountain Loop are dedicated to this methodology as well as the Crossfit Kids mission: Doing what is best for children.
The Workouts of the Day (WOD) that we program are intended to get kids moving in new ways, all while having a ton of fun. As safety is our paramount concern, good form and proper technique is always stressed while doing the various movements.
A typical Crossfit Kids class is 30 minutes and includes:
- A warmup
- A skill to focus on for the day
- The WOD featuring the skill
- A game
Although all the kids will do the same movements and skills, the WOD is tailored to fit the specific needs of the kids, resulting in two different tracks for the WOD. We carefully look at age, ability and movement patterns to determine the most appropriate placement for the kids in one of the two tracks.
Everyone looks forward to the fun games at the end of the class. These vary from week to week, and when the kids are begging at the end to play one more time and don't want to leave, we know it is has been a successful class.
So, come out and get your kids moving with us!
